Edge Taping Carpet Seams
Seam peaking occurs when the seam is set and then stretching occurs as the installation process is completed.
Edge taping carpet seams. Leave the weights in place until the adhesive sets. Watch as certified mohawk carpet installers install carpeting and seal the carpet seams together. Carpet seam tape is a heat activated adhesive tape used to join the edges of carpet together. Okay so seams are totally fine but what about seam peaking.
The backing of your carpet will be attached to the seam tape and stretching during installation can pull the points where the tape is attached tight enough to cause the top section of the carpet to peak upwards. Carpet seam tape may also be used to repair tears or when replacing a damaged area of carpet. As you move down the seam with the iron roll over the joined seam behind the iron using a seam roller to press the carpet edges into the tape adhesive and ensure they lie flat. It is applied underneath the carpet when the carpet is installed.
After rolling place heavy objects such as large books over the rolled area of the seam to hold the carpet in place.
