Once their larvae come out of the eggs they start looking to feed on natural fibers dead insects seeds and any milled items they can find. Carpet beetles are common and can be difficult to prevent completely no matter how diligent you are about cleaning. They feed on items containing wool silk animal hides fur horns and feathers.
If you have adult carpet beetles there is a good chance their larvae are somewhere in your home. As previously indicated carpet beetles consume natural fibers for food. Adult beetles have different sizes and colors but most are between one tenth of an inch and three sixteenths of an inch long. There are several species of carpet beetle but they re all oval shaped and about long.
Carpet beetles love dried pet food whether it is for a dog or cat. They generally come inside the home to lay their eggs in carpets and other dark discrete places where you can t see them. Carpet beetles like clothes moths cause damage to fabric. They may look mottled with black brown and white or be solid black depending on the species.
Their larvae are grublike and covered with hairs. What do carpet beetles look like. If you have pet dishes filled with dried food then it will be easier for carpet beetles to find the food and actually start living in the dish. If you live in northern virginia or maryland this is the time of year to start looking for carpet beetles.
Unfortunately carpet beetles are more or less exactly what they sound like.
