Let the baking soda sit on the carpet for several hours up to 24 hours to allow it ample time to soak up the remaining moisture and odor from the carpet. Add the baking soda. Simply sprinkle a liberal amount of baking soda over your wet carpet and allow it to sit for at least half an hour.
Add lots of baking soda. Sprinkle baking soda liberally all over the carpet either right from the box or using a fine mesh sieve. Allow the baking soda to mix with the vinegar and water mixture for at least a few hours. Although you may have to spend quite a time and efforts inwringing out the carpet to dry it this is the easiest way to get baking soda out of your carpet.
Sanitize other room surfaces. Sprinkle a large amount of baking soda over the damp carpet. The baking soda on your carpet will get converted to co2 and sodium acetate which is solid in nature. Vacuum your carpet first.
You will most likely need more than one canister so make sure you re ready and buy enough ahead of time. Depending on the size of the damp carpet you may need to use more than one canister of baking soda. How to keep wet carpet from molding. The longer you wait the better.
Mixing baking soda with dirt won t be very effective. Baking soda absorbs odors and moisture. Gently spread the baking soda around the carpet with a broom or sponge working the powder into the carpet as you do so. Baking soda works wonders when it comes to lifting and removing trapped moisture.
